Theodoric Urban Trekking in Ravenna
From 493 A.D. Ravenna saw one of the most important and significant chapters of its history. Following the conquest by the Goths, an eastern Germanic population of Arian faith, led by Theodoric the Great, the city was enriched with new institutional and religious buildings without subverting those already present, in the desire to make its faith coexist with the Orthodox rite.
This tour wishes to highlight a latent past intrinsic to the urban and cultural fabric of Ravenna, which successive dominations have tried to conceal.
The route includes entrance to four monuments, two of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Starting with the most famous and legendary one, the unique Mausoleum of Theodoric, we will then head towards the historical centre, first admiring the 'Palace of Theodoric', located next to the Palatine Basilica of St Martin in Tours (today Sant'Apollinare Nuovo) and then the Arian Baptistery.
At this point, at the Mercato Coperto (Covered Market), you can enjoy a well-deserved break with a leisurely breakfast/meal, savouring the delights of traditional Romagna gastronomy, before continuing on to the last stop on our trek, the Museo Nazionale di Ravenna (National Museum of Ravenna), where important artefacts of Ravenna's past are preserved.
The Theodoric Urban Trekking was born from the desire to make tourism outside the classic canons of guided tours.
Come with us on this new experience that combines sport, art, taste and the desire to discover the city's most hidden and curious places associated with the good habit of walking.

Take part of our guided tours that will lead you on a pleasant walk along the main streets of Ravenna’s historic town to discover the most suggestive and least known corners, famous people, anecdotes and legends, food and wine and street art.
A guided tour in the historical center to look into the rich heritage of the city whose flagship are the 8 UNESCO monuments. The churches and basilicas of Ravenna tell us about a past in which the halls of worship were the reference points in the various districts of the ancient city. Houses and small buildings adorned with portals, double lancet windows, balconies and porticoes, are evidence of the building renovation made during the Venetian domination in the second half of the 15th century. Not to mention the fact that for centuries Ravenna, an extraordinarily powerful and evocative city, welcomed illustrious characters that have been great poets and ingenious revolutionaries on this land. So much, that even today, Ravenna is still chosen by internationally renowned artists for installations and works of street art.

A Marina di Ravenna
Happy Hour with Turtles
Enjoy the evening meal of some of the special guests who are being treated at the Cestha Center (Experimental Center for Habitat Protection), a non-profit research organization, whose mission is environmental protection.
The Research Centre, composed of researchers and specialists from the natural sciences, marine biology and veterinary medicine, deals with conservation programmes for endangered species and the promotion of sustainable management activities.
Your visit to the Marine Fauna Recovery Centre, located in the complex of the ancient Fish Market in Marina di Ravenna, converted in recent years into a marine research centre, will be led by this very team of biologists.
The experience is suitable for everyone and takes place in the context of environmental education, to raise awareness of today's issues: waste, proper use of plastic and respect for the environment.
You will meet up close the turtles now being treated at the centre, learn about their history, clinical diagnosis, healing process and release into the sea. Finally, for those who wish, it will be possible to experience the thrill of actively participating in the daily feeding of some of the patients.
The contribution of participation in this activity is aimed at supporting the fish fauna housed there, such as the turtles that are the protagonists of this 'experience'; but it also has another important and very heartfelt purpose: that of forming in all of us, starting from an early age, an environmental awareness that will accompany us and grow over time.
In addition, the income will enable the Centre to bear the many expenses involved in managing this particular 'hospital', such as the cost of medicines, therapies and specialist veterinary examinations. In fact, the Centre supports itself thanks to its dissemination initiatives, as it receives no public funding for the care and management of sea turtles.
